Coastline Housing, a leading social landlord in Cornwall, recently honoured several outstanding individuals for their exceptional contributions to local communities with the Customer at the Heart Awards. The awards ceremony, held in Redruth, celebrated local residents nominated by their peers for making a significant difference in the lives of others.
Young Hero Award: Seren Blackmore
Among the awardees was Seren Blackmore from Padstow, who was named Young Hero for her tireless efforts in keeping her neighbourhood clean. Seren has been an advocate for litter picking in her area for years, often taking time to pick up litter in a local park, even after it lacked a proper litter bin. Her commitment to enhancing the environment and assisting others, particularly by supporting children experiencing bullying in the park, has garnered her widespread respect.
Partnership Working Award: Izzy MacQueen
The Partnership Working Award was awarded to Izzy MacQueen, founder of 7th Rise, an eco-friendly venue providing wild experiences along the Fal River. Izzy’s generosity has made a lasting impact on Coastline’s Homeless Service clients, offering free use of her venue each month for workshops and activities that have significantly boosted the wellbeing and confidence of participants.
Your Next Step Award: Hussain Layne
Hussain Layne, a volunteer with Coastline’s Homeless Service, received the Your Next Step Award. His personal journey and hard work, including helping to transform a neglected garden space into a welcoming activity area, have been invaluable to the service. Hussain also played a key role in creating a newsletter for the Homeless Service and representing clients in various resident groups.
Green Champion Award: Dermot Dooley
The Green Champion Award was given to Dermot Dooley from Bodmin for his dedication to maintaining local green spaces, offering a safe area for children to play while fostering a thriving environment for wildlife. Dermot’s efforts to support his neighbours with garden maintenance and promote sustainable practices have been instrumental in enhancing the community.
Community Volunteer of the Year: Tim Davis
Tim Davis of Truro received the Community Volunteer of the Year Award for his dedication to promoting outdoor activity. Since 2019, Tim has led local walks that have grown into the popular ‘Explore Cornwall’ programme, encouraging people to stay active while exploring the beauty of the region.
Miners Minder Award: Jeanette Evans
Jeanette Evans, from Redruth, was honoured with the Miners Minder Award for her dedication to volunteering at the Miners Court Extra Care scheme. Through her love of card games, Jeanette has brought joy to residents by hosting weekly sessions, providing social interaction and fostering connections between participants.
Good Neighbour Award: Kimberley Croft
The Good Neighbour Award was presented to Kimberley Croft for his continuous efforts in maintaining a communal garden, picking up litter, and growing vegetables for others to enjoy. Kimberley’s commitment to creating a cleaner, greener community has inspired many of his neighbours to get involved.
Long Service Award: Joe Ferguson
Joe Ferguson from Helston was recognised with a special Long Service Award for his years of dedication to Coastline’s activities. His long-standing commitment to improving his community has had a profound impact on his peers and is an example of community leadership.
Closing Remarks from Coastline Housing’s Leadership
Allister Young, Chief Executive of Coastline Housing, presented the awards alongside retiring Chair, Steve Harrison. Allister shared his pride in recognising such remarkable individuals, saying, “Each and every person nominated deserves true congratulations for the impact they have had on their local community.
