Global supply chain solutions leader, AIT Worldwide Logistics, has announced the launch of its new artificial intelligence (AI) and data science team. This strategic move is set to enhance the company’s commitment to leveraging data as a critical asset. Under the guidance of newly appointed Vice President, Patrick Chew, the team will spearhead the integration of cutting-edge AI tools to further elevate AIT’s customer service capabilities.

Transforming Data Into a Strategic Asset

AIT is always focused on future advancements,” stated Vaughn Moore, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “With the launch of our AI and data science team, we are set to harness the potential of technologies like generative AI, natural language processing, and machine learning. This is a significant step in our strategy to enhance our global service offerings.

The creation of the AI and data science team aligns with AIT’s vision to drive growth through advanced data capabilities. The new department will be integral in transforming AIT’s data infrastructure and implementing next-generation AI tools. The team’s work will include improving business intelligence, analytics, and data governance to benefit both customers and internal operations.

    Leadership and Expertise

Patrick Chew, the newly appointed Vice President of AI and Data Science, brings a wealth of experience to the role. With 25 years in the field, Chew has previously led data governance at Caterpillar and has a proven track record with Fortune 500 companies. Since joining AIT in January 2024, Chew has directed data enablement efforts and will now lead this critical initiative.

Keith Tholan, AIT’s President and Chief Operating Officer, commented, “Patrick’s extensive experience in data governance will be instrumental in guiding our data transformation journey. His leadership will help us maximise our data assets and drive significant growth.”

    Structure and Objectives

The AI and data science team is structured into three key areas:

    • Data Enablement: Focuses on reorganising existing data assets to align with next-generation requirements. This team aims to build trust with stakeholders through enhanced efficiency and innovative solutions.
    • AI Governance and Data Science: Responsible for developing new AI features with a strong emphasis on accuracy and privacy. This team will ensure that the technology evolves in line with industry standards and regulations.
    • Business Intelligence and Analytics: Provides centralized reporting and visualization across the organisation, supporting data-driven decision-making and strategic planning.

The team will implement a rigorous approach to data transformation, including the redefinition of core domains and optimisation of established workflows. The initiative will create a unified version of truth for data management, supporting the development of powerful key performance indicators.

    A Commitment to Excellence

“Data is a fundamental element that impacts every aspect of our business,” said Chew. Our dedication to data excellence means reorganising and utilising vast amounts of data to improve business intelligence, boost efficiency, and drive innovation.

Chew added, “By raising the bar for data quality and governance, we aim to improve outcomes for our stakeholders and further differentiate AIT in the freight forwarding industry.”

AIT Worldwide Logistics is excited about the future and the potential of its new AI and data science team to drive meaningful advancements in data management and customer satisfaction.
