World Rhino Day: SORAI Ranger Programme Launch

    Shelia FreemanBy Shelia Freeman21/09/2024Updated:21/09/2024

In anticipation of World Rhino Day on Sunday, 22 September, world-renowned cricketer and conservationist Kevin Pietersen will officially unveil the SORAI Rangers Programme this Friday. This innovative initiative aims to connect individuals worldwide with vital wildlife conservation efforts in Africa and India, marking a significant expansion of SORAI’s mission to protect endangered species, particularly rhinos, from extinction.

Join the Global Community of Wildlife Protectors

The SORAI Ranger Programme invites the public to join a dedicated global community focused on safeguarding some of the planet’s most vulnerable species for as little as GBP 1 per month. By becoming a SORAI Ranger, individuals can actively contribute to ongoing conservation efforts, which range from funding anti-poaching initiatives to supporting rehabilitation programmes for injured and orphaned wildlife.

This initiative offers an accessible and meaningful way for everyone to get involved in wildlife protection, making it easier for concerned citizens to take an active role in combating the threats facing endangered species today.

Kevin Pietersen expressed, ‘We are providing individuals with a chance to engage directly in the conservation of keystone species that play a crucial role in maintaining the health of ecosystems in Africa and India. Through the SORAI Ranger Programme, we’re building a community of wildlife protectors who will stand together as a human barrier against poaching and the illegal wildlife trade.”

    Leadership and Expertise

Joining Pietersen in this endeavour is Tristan Phipps, a well-known wildlife enthusiast and television personality, who will serve as Head Ranger for the SORAI Rangers Programme. His experience as a safari guide, combined with his passion for conservation, adds invaluable expertise and amplifies the message of wildlife protection to a broader audience. Phipps has dedicated his career to raising awareness of the importance of preserving biodiversity, making him a perfect fit for this role.

Tristan Phipps remarked, ‘Joining this initiative feels like a dream realised. We’re not merely raising awareness; we’re uniting a community capable of driving meaningful, enduring change for the world’s most at-risk species.

    Programme Highlights

    • Global Community: Rangers will join a worldwide network, united by their commitment to conservation and the protection of endangered species.
    • Exclusive Benefits: Members will enjoy privileged access to updates on conservation initiatives, discounts on SORAI merchandise, and chances to win unique prizes, including autographed items and additional rewards.
    • Supporting Conservation Efforts: Membership fees will directly fund critical initiatives such as anti-poaching patrols, wildlife surveillance technology, and rehabilitation efforts for orphaned rhinos. This ensures that contributions have a tangible impact on conservation efforts.

    Collaborations and Partnerships

This initiative aligns with SORAI’s existing partnerships and ongoing conservation projects with organisations like Care for Wild, the world’s largest rhino sanctuary, as well as technological upgrades in wildlife reserves throughout South Africa. These collaborations are crucial for enhancing the effectiveness of conservation efforts and ensuring the protection of rhinos in their natural habitats.

    How to Get Involved

The public can sign up for the SORAI Ranger Programme starting this Friday, 20 September, via the official SORAI website. Membership is available for a minimum monthly contribution, making it accessible for anyone passionate about wildlife conservation to participate in this global effort. The SORAI Rangers Programme not only empowers individuals but also fosters a collective responsibility towards safeguarding wildlife.
