Reports Reveals Strong Affection for Vehicles
Britain remains a nation of car enthusiasts, even with the escalating costs of vehicle ownership. According to a recent survey by Quotezone.co.uk, nearly a quarter of British motorists would choose their dream car over their dream partner if given the option.
Growing Affection Amid Rising Costs
Despite the surge in fuel prices, 26% of drivers reported that their affection for their cars has intensified over the past year. The survey found that 49% of respondents still have a strong liking for their vehicles, while 40% describe their relationship with their car as a love affair. Only 13% said their feelings toward their vehicle had diminished over the past year.
Love for Cars vs. Partners
Interestingly, 50% of drivers said they love their partner more than their car. However, 15% admitted they love both their partner and car equally, and 8% confessed they love their car more than their partner. Despite the rising costs associated with car ownership, just 13% are considering downsizing or giving up their vehicle. Almost half of the respondents (49%) said they would only part with their car if absolutely necessary.
Factors Influencing Downsizing Decisions
Other considerations for potentially downsizing include the cost of servicing and repairs (12%), insurance (10%), and road tax (8%).
Insights
Greg Wilson, Founder of Quotezone.co.uk, commented: “Our love affair with our cars seems to be thriving, even as we drive less frequently due to hybrid working and rising fuel costs. The time spent in our vehicles often provides a welcome escape from daily life, which may explain why our bond with our cars endures.”
Wilson added, “The special relationship we have with our cars has not only persisted but seems to be growing stronger during these challenging times. It’s no surprise that a quarter of us would choose a dream car over a dream partner, with nearly 1 in 10 saying they love their car more than their partner.”
Looking Ahead
Wilson noted that even though many drivers are content with their current vehicles, a third plan to transition to hybrid cars in the near future, in anticipation of the ban on new petrol and diesel vehicle sales in seven years.
