Celebrating a Decade of Commitment
On September 18, 2024, the HWPL World Peace Summit will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a significant event in South Korea, and simultaneously in 122 countries around the globe. This milestone event, themed ‘Creating World Peace Community Through Regional Collaboration,’ marks a decade of unwavering dedication from global leaders and citizens committed to promoting peace. The anniversary celebrations will not only reflect on past achievements but also set the stage for future strategies aimed at enhancing global harmony.
A Decade of Global Leadership
Since its inception in 2014, the Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL) has been at the forefront of international peace initiatives. The inaugural HWPL World Peace Summit, held in Seoul, was a landmark event that brought together over a thousand leaders from diverse sectors—including politics, religion, women’s groups, youth organisations, and the media—from approximately 140 countries. This summit was crucial in addressing critical issues such as conflict resolution, religious harmony, and the implementation of legal frameworks to ensure lasting peace.
Reviewing Achievements and Planning for the Future
The 10th-anniversary event aims to review the achievements made over the past decade and outline ambitious future plans. This milestone will bring together regional experts and stakeholders to establish networks crucial for developing tailored peace strategies. The summit will emphasise enhancing regional networks to address local peace challenges and leveraging collective strengths. Various sessions will be held globally to engage participants at multiple levels, ensuring a comprehensive approach to peacebuilding.
Empowering Individuals as Peace Advocates
Under the inspiring slogan “Let’s have everyone become a messenger of peace,” HWPL is championing individual responsibility in promoting peace. The organisation aims to gather and present messages of peace from individuals worldwide at the event. These messages will serve as a powerful symbol of the global commitment to peace and unity, reflecting the shared aspirations of people from all walks of life.
Addressing Global Challenges Through Regional Cooperation
Over the past decade, HWPL, in collaboration with its global partners, has tackled significant challenges such as military tensions, economic disputes, climate change, and cyber security threats. This ongoing effort has been supported by agreements established in 2014, which laid the groundwork for robust regional and international cooperation. HWPL has worked tirelessly to build a comprehensive peace governance framework, connecting international organisations, governments, and civil societies.
Chairman Lee Man-hee’s Vision for Peace
Reflecting on the 9th anniversary in 2023, Chairman Lee Man-hee of HWPL shared a profound vision for peace: “Why should the lives of young people be sacrificed in war? What is the purpose of politics, and who does it truly serve? In times of war, it is the youth who bear the greatest burden. Peace cannot be achieved through words alone. If Had peace prevailed in our world, countless regrettable deaths could have been avoided. We must leave peace as a legacy to the global community where our descendants will live.” Chairman Lee’s words underscore the importance of continued commitment to peace and the legacy that future generations will inherit.
As HWPL celebrates this significant milestone, the 10th Anniversary of the World Peace Summit stands as a testament to a decade of dedicated efforts toward global peace. The event will be a pivotal moment to reflect on past successes and renew the collective commitment to achieving a more harmonious and peaceful world.
