Save Your Headphones With This Expert Advice AirPods
Summer is almost here, and it’s the perfect time to enjoy music or podcasts while at the pool or beach. But accidents happen, and your AirPods might take a swim.
Don’t panic! Emily Stallings, Co-founder of Casely, reveals how to keep clean and save your AirPods after a splash.
Are AirPods Waterproof?
Standard AirPods are not waterproof. However, it’s important to note that some models, such as the AirPods 3rd Gen, AirPods Pro, and AirPods Pro 2, do offer water resistance to a certain extent. While these AirPods themselves are equipped with this feature, it’s important to recognize that the case does not provide the same level of water resistance. Similarly, the standard AirPods lack water resistance capabilities entirely. Therefore, caution should be exercised to avoid exposing any AirPods model, along with their respective cases, to excessive moisture or submersion.
Resistant simply means if you’re sweating a lot, get some droplets on it, it will probably be ok. But if they’re submerged, they might be in trouble.
Unfortunately, Apple’s 1 year warranty does not cover water damage. But fear not; it’s still possible to save your headphones.
Save the Pods
Time is everything after your AirPods get wet. Act fast! First, dry the AirPods and case with a lint free cloth. Pay special attention to the charging port as that’s where it’s easiest for damage to occur. Turn the case upside down over a dry cloth so any excess fluid drains with gravity.
Emily says, “Don’t put the AirPods back in the case until you’re absolutely certain they’re dry.” Moisture can get tapped and cause damage to your headphones.
Once they’re thoroughly wiped down, it’s time to get every last drop of moisture out of the pods. The best way to get this is to put them in an airtight container with silica gel packets. You might have some of these packets in your home in your shoe boxes, cereal boxes, or other items.
If not, reach for the rice. Submerge the and case desperately in rice and wait. “Rice is an effective natural way to suck in moisture from any electronic devices,” says Emily.
Once they’re dry, put them back in the dry case and test if they’re charging.
A stylish and durable case, like those offered at Casely, will not only enhance the look of your AirPods but also provide essential protection against future damage.
