Young Women Seek Positivity Amidst Self-Criticism

    Sam AllcockBy Sam Allcock26/09/2024Updated:26/09/2024

Survey Highlights Self-Criticism and Personal Goals

New research conducted by Acti+, a clean energy drink brand, reveals that a significant number of young women in the UK are striving to cultivate a more positive mindset. The survey, targeting women aged 18-34, uncovers that while saving money (58%) and enhancing physical fitness (43%) are top priorities, many women are also focusing on their mental health and self-perception.

    Self-Criticism Among Young Women

The findings indicate a concerning trend, with 31% of respondents admitting to negative self-talk. Additionally, 37% wish to improve their self-confidence, while 36% prioritise mental wellbeing, and 30% want to adopt a more positive outlook. Dr Becky Spelman, a psychologist and founder of Private Therapy Clinic, attributes these feelings of self-doubt to societal pressures and unrealistic expectations.

“Many women grapple with a lack of confidence influenced by external standards,” explains Dr Spelman.   Building self-confidence through methods like self-compassion, using positive affirmations, and recognising personal accomplishments can give women the strength to approach their goals with fresh motivation and resolve.

    The Pressure of Perfectionism

The survey reveals that over half (56%) of the participants feel they are more critical of themselves than of others. Dr Spelman attributes this self-critical tendency to perfectionism and internalised societal expectations. She further explains, Women frequently contend with heightened expectations set by societal gender roles, which contribute to greater self-criticism and personal demands.

Acti+ Launches ‘Positive Energy Only’ Campaign

In response to these findings, Acti+ has launched its ‘positive energy only’ campaign, aiming to encourage women to embrace positivity in their self-talk. Dr Spelman emphasises that cultivating a positive internal dialogue is crucial for self-improvement. “Practicing self-compassion, mindfulness, and incorporating positive affirmations can assist in transforming negative thoughts into encouraging and supportive ones,” she explains.

    Refreshing Alternatives in Energy Drinks

Acti+ is dedicated to promoting positive energy through its new product line, which features two exciting flavours: Strawberry & Dragon Fruit and Peach & Apricot. These drinks are enriched with nootropics and essential vitamins, crafted to provide a zero-sugar, all-natural alternative to conventional energy drinks.

The brand aims to help consumers enhance their focus, boost performance, and unlock their full potential without the drawbacks often associated with sugary and artificial energy drinks.

    Celebrating the Launch with Influencers

To celebrate the official launch of Acti+, Acti+ hosted an exclusive event at Digme fitness, attracting lifestyle and fitness influencers, celebrities, and media figures. Attendees included Milly G Fit, Bronte King, Big Brother UK star Noky Simbani, and The Apprentice 2024 candidate Sam Saadet. The event featured a dynamic spin class designed to promote positivity and energy.

    Commitment to Consumer Empowerment

Barnaby Hughes, Chief Marketing Officer at Acti+, commented on the brand’s mission: “Acti+ was created to address a long-standing gap in the energy drink market. We aimed to produce a product that truly empowers our consumers to achieve their goals with only positive energy and no harmful additives. By offering a healthy alternative to traditional energy drinks, we aspire to support individuals in unlocking their limitless potential and exceeding their expectations.”
