Maiden Launches Cricket brand to Empower Young Sports Girls

    Sam AllcockBy Sam Allcock30/07/2024

     Maiden

Today marks the dawn of a new era in girls’ cricket with the launch of Maiden. This clothing range aims to empower, inspire, and redefine the game for young female cricketers. “ Dont worry boys ! will take it from here” is the slogan driving this initiative.

    Addressing the Need

Honor and Cat Black, fed up with wearing uncomfortable, ill-fitting cricket clothes designed for boys, created Maiden. Their aim is to boost girls’ confidence on the cricket field. Maiden is more than a brand, it’s a declaration that cricket is for everyone. With over 100 million women and girls playing cricket worldwide, the sport is played at the top level by both genders.

    Challenges with Existing Gear

Young girls starting out or training often wear clothing not made for them. Hand-me-downs from older brothers or boys’ kits don’t consider girls’ curves, comfort, or style. This leads to discomfort and a lack of confidence on the field.

    Mission of Maiden

Honor and Cat Black aim to reshape the future of female cricket with their innovative designs. These designs are crafted to meet girls’ unique needs in both function and fashion. Maiden’s apparel combines style and comfort, ensuring girls feel their best on the field. This is crucial for those who regularly wear whites or sports kit.

    Voices of the Founders

Honor Black, 16, Co-Founder of Maiden, says: “Our journey has been driven by passion and dedication. Cricket captured our hearts as children.” But, wearing those oversized jerseys and trousers felt like borrowing someone else’s dream. With Maiden, we want every girl to know this dream is theirs, too.

We put a lot of thought and detail into each clothing design and have had positive feedback from girls who tried them. We want to champion girls’ cricket and highlight what a fantastic sport it is. It fosters confidence in young women and creates a supportive community of girls empowering each other. It’s about looking and feeling good.”

Cat Black, 13, Co-Founder of Maiden, adds, “Maiden is more than just clothing. It’s about creating a sense of belonging. It’s a community where girls, whether players or supporters, feel empowered and seen.”

    Launch Range and Sustainability

The initial collection features Mid-on Tops, Pace Pullovers, Night watch, and Test Match Trousers. Prices start from £35. Ethically in Portugal, the products are both sustainable and durable. The girls feel responsible for protecting the environment for future generations of female cricketers.

    Call for Ambassadors

Maiden is seeking ambassadors – young female cricketers eager to wear the apparel and inspire others. Interested individuals can apply via the Maiden website.

    Availability

The products are available for purchase on the Maiden website http://www.maiden-cricket.co.uk.
