Renowned PR expert, journalist, and media consultant Fiona Scott has been awarded the Solo Entrepreneur of the Year title at the South West Business & Community Awards. This prestigious honour celebrates her outstanding contributions to the media and public relations industry, as well as her unwavering commitment to supporting businesses and individuals across the UK.
Since launching her independent PR consultancy in 2008, Fiona has established herself as a leading figure in the media landscape. Having transitioned from her role as a TV series producer after redundancy, she has since worked with a diverse range of businesses, supported numerous media campaigns, and contributed to both television and local news outlets. Her expertise has not only helped businesses amplify their messages but has also driven community initiatives and charitable efforts that have made a tangible impact.
A Testament to Hard Work and Dedication
The judging panel at the South West Business & Community Awards praised Fiona for her resilience, adaptability, and the positive influence she has had on both her clients and the wider media industry. They highlighted her journey from redundancy to becoming a trusted media professional as a testament to perseverance and passion. “Fiona’s ability to navigate an evolving industry while maintaining her integrity and dedication is truly inspiring. She has not only built a thriving business but has also mentored and supported countless entrepreneurs, businesses, and charities through her work.”
Fiona expressed her gratitude for the award, acknowledging the trust her clients have placed in her over the years. “I’m incredibly honoured to receive this recognition after 17 years of running my own consultancy. From my earliest days as a journalist nearly 40 years ago to now, my passion for storytelling and media has never wavered. I am grateful to every client who has trusted me to share their stories and help them navigate the world of PR.”
Championing Independent Entrepreneurs
Fiona also highlighted the importance of recognising freelancers and solo entrepreneurs, who often operate outside the traditional business growth models. “Many awards focus on companies with rapid expansion plans, but self-employed professionals are a vital part of the business ecosystem. We may not be building corporations, but we are shaping industries and supporting communities in meaningful ways.”
A Growing List of Achievements
This accolade adds to a long list of professional milestones for Fiona. Last year, she was named one of the Top Five PR Advisers in the UK at the UK Top Business Advisers Awards. Later this year, she is set to publish her second book, which will reflect on her experiences as a journalist in Somerset and Swindon, offering an insider’s look into the evolving media landscape.
Celebrating Client Success
The awards evening was not just a personal triumph for Fiona—it was also a proud moment as several of her clients were finalists in various categories. Among them, Louise Hunt Skelley PLY was presented with the Special Recognition Award.
“Seeing my clients succeed is just as rewarding as receiving this award myself. Their hard work and dedication inspire me every day, and I’m honoured to be part of their journeys,” Fiona said.
Following this regional win, Fiona is now automatically entered for a national award, which will be announced later this summer.
