AI-Powered Sustainability: Ekoten Tekstil’s Innovation in Textile Production

    Sam AllcockBy Sam Allcock04/02/2025Updated:06/02/2025

Ekoten Tekstil, a subsidiary of Sun Tekstil and a prominent force in textile manufacturing, is driving sustainability efforts through artificial intelligence (AI). By employing AI-powered defect detection, the company improves fabric quality while minimising waste. This advanced technology enables real-time monitoring, enhancing efficiency and significantly reducing the environmental impact of textile production.

“Our AI-driven systems allow us to detect and correct textile defects before they lead to unnecessary reprocessing, reducing waste and optimising resource use,” said Sabri Ünlütürk, Vice Chairman of the Board of Sun Tekstil and Ekoten Tekstil. “This technology strengthens both efficiency and sustainability in our manufacturing processes.”

Reducing Water Usage with AI in Textile Manufacturing

Textile manufacturing is one of the largest consumers of water, with dyeing and finishing processes contributing to nearly 20% of global industrial water pollution. Ekoten Tekstil’s AI technology helps address this issue by identifying defects earlier in the process, reducing the need for re-dyeing and reprocessing, and ultimately conserving water.

With droughts becoming more frequent and severe, water conservation has never been more critical. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that 55 million people worldwide are affected by droughts each year, exacerbating global water shortages. By focusing on efficiency and minimising excess water use, Ekoten Tekstil is contributing to wider sustainability efforts.

Commitment to Sustainable and Inclusive Growth

Ekoten Tekstil’s sustainability achievements go beyond water conservation. The company has earned an A rating from the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) Climate Change assessment, outperforming the textile industry’s global B average and the worldwide C rating. Furthermore, it has maintained an A/Leadership ranking in the CDP Supplier Engagement Ranking for three consecutive years, highlighting its role as a leader in sustainable supply chains.

In addition to its environmental initiatives, Ekoten Tekstil places a strong emphasis on workplace inclusivity, ensuring that women play a central role in leadership and production. This approach aligns with the company’s broader mission to integrate technological advancements with responsible business practices.

“Innovation is not just about technology—it’s also about fostering an inclusive and forward-thinking workplace,” Ünlütürk said. “At Ekoten Tekstil, we believe that sustainable success comes from both operational advancements and a diverse, empowered workforce.”

With continuous investment in AI, sustainability, and workplace diversity, Ekoten Tekstil is shaping a more responsible and forward-thinking textile industry.
