    Participation in InnoTrans

As part of a state trade mission, Bogotá and Cundinamarca will participate in InnoTrans, the premier international event focused on transportation technology, held biennially in Berlin. Coordinated by the Ministry of Transportation and the National Infrastructure Agency, this year marks the 14th edition of the event. The investment promotion agency, Invest in Bogotá, will represent the city alongside Empresa Metro de Bogotá in their quest for companies eager to invest in urban equipment and metro station development.

Strategic Goals for Metro and Regiotram Projects

Under the direction of Mayor Carlos Fernando Galán, the initiative aims to attract significant investments to bolster the metro system and enhance the regional railway infrastructure. The Cundinamarca Mobility Secretariat will also be on the lookout for investors for its key railway projects, including Regiotram del Norte and Regiotram de Occidente. These projects are essential for improving urban mobility and facilitating better connectivity within the region, ultimately benefiting both local residents and the broader metropolitan area.

Isabella Muñoz, Executive Director of Invest in Bogotá, commented, “Our participation in InnoTrans reflects the current administration’s commitment to fortifying the railway system. This includes improving Bogotá’s metro network and fostering better integration of railway services across the region. We believe that strategic partnerships and investments will play a crucial role in achieving our objectives.”

    Focus on Financing and Partnerships

Discussions during the event will concentrate on securing financing for the extension of the first line of the Metro. The agency aims to establish connections with real estate companies and specialists in station management, taking into account commercial and real estate opportunities. Furthermore, insights into cutting-edge technology will be sought for future bids on railway projects, ensuring that the systems implemented are both modern and efficient.

The agency will engage in meetings with rail operators, engineering consultants, technology developers, train and rolling stock manufacturers, as well as potential investors. A visit to the Berlin Metro operations center is also scheduled, allowing participants to gain firsthand knowledge of successful metropolitan transit operations. This exposure is invaluable for understanding best practices and innovative solutions that can be applied to Bogotá’s transportation network.

    InnoTrans Overview

InnoTrans, taking place from September 24 to September 27, features five major exhibition sectors, including rail technology, rail infrastructure, public transport, interiors, and tunnel construction. With 42 exhibition halls spread across Berlin’s convention centres, the event is a hub for industry leaders and innovators.

In 2022, InnoTrans attracted over 2,771 exhibitors from 56 countries and welcomed more than 137,403 visitors from across the globe, highlighting its significance in the transportation technology landscape. This year’s event promises to build on that momentum, showcasing advancements that can revolutionise urban transit systems worldwide.

Future Aspirations for Bogotá and Cundinamarca

The participation of Bogotá and Cundinamarca in InnoTrans is a pivotal step towards realising their vision of a modern, efficient, and integrated public transport system. By fostering relationships with international partners, the local government aims to elevate the quality of urban mobility for residents and visitors alike.

With an emphasis on sustainable development and smart city initiatives, the region is poised to transform its transport infrastructure. This transformation ensures that the metro and regional rail systems meet the growing demands of its population and contribute positively to the environment, enhancing the overall quality of life for all citizens.
