The Athenaeum is delighted to unveil a new collaboration with Smithdown Social Arts Hub. This partnership will present a series of themed exhibitions featuring local artists. Historic Collaboration
For over 220 years, The Athenaeum has been integral to Liverpool’s cultural and business life. Now, this renowned venue will provide a prestigious platform for local artists. The exhibitions will link modern art with The Athenaeum’s extensive collection of historical artifacts. This setting will offer a unique opportunity to appreciate Liverpool’s artistic legacy while showcasing contemporary talent.

Event Highlights
- Themed Exhibition: The inaugural show will be on display for three months. It will feature local artists’ unique interpretations of a specific theme. This showcase will highlight a range of contemporary art, reflecting the creativity of Liverpool’s artists.
- Public Access: The exhibition will be open to the public on Thursday and Friday evenings from September 19th to November 29th. Visitors will be able to explore historical artwork and artifacts from The Athenaeum’s collection, enriching their understanding of Liverpool’s artistic and cultural heritage.
- Grand Newsroom: The historic Newsroom will also be accessible during exhibition evenings. This iconic space, once frequented by Liverpool’s business leaders, will offer a setting to admire the art and socialise. The Grand Newsroom’s artistic decor will enhance the experience, providing a glimpse into Liverpool’s rich history.
Opening Event
