Celebrating Resilience, Empowerment, and Self-Expression through Art, Beauty, and Film
e.l.f. Beauty is proud to unveil the latest episode of its acclaimed Show Your(s)e.l.f. film series, starring Viktoria Modesta, the pioneering bionic pop artist. The episode will be presented on December 5th as part of the Tribeca Festival at Art Basel Miami Beach, marking an exciting milestone for e.l.f. in its mission to highlight self-expression, inclusivity, and the boundless potential of resilience. This collaboration between e.l.f. and Tribeca Festival celebrates the synergy between art, beauty, and cinematic storytelling.
Empowering Stories through Art and Film
The Show Your(s)e.l.f. film series was created with the aim of spotlighting extraordinary individuals who have overcome personal challenges to promote positivity, inclusion, and accessibility. Each episode features a unique role model who redefines beauty and inspires others to do the same. The latest episode introduces Viktoria Modesta, an innovative artist whose resilience and creative journey continue to break barriers and challenge societal norms.
Modesta’s life story is a testament to strength and reinvention. As a child, she underwent numerous surgeries due to a congenital leg condition, eventually making the decision to amputate her leg during her teenage years. Far from being a setback, this bold decision transformed her life and propelled her into the world of avant-garde art. Today, Modesta uses her prosthetic leg as a symbol of self-expression, turning it into an iconic part of her artistic persona.
A Journey of Bold Transformation
“Kory Marchisotto, Chief Marketing Officer of e.l.f. Beauty, commented, ‘Viktoria’s journey is a powerful testament to strength and perseverance. She exemplifies the core values of our Show Your(s)e.l.f. series: embracing individuality, challenging expectations, and celebrating the beauty in our differences. Her journey serves as an inspiration to us all, encouraging us to rethink what beauty is and how it is expressed.”
“Looking back on her journey, Modesta revealed, ‘It was during the 2012 Paralympics, when I wore a diamond prosthetic, that I realised how empowering it is to take full ownership of your own story. We all have the ability to start anew every day, and it’s a process that requires courage but also brings incredible transformation. Being part of Show Your(s)e.l.f. means more to me than just showcasing my art, it’s about breaking boundaries and redefining beauty in every form.”
Continuing Partnership with Tribeca Festival
The premiere of Modesta’s episode will take place at the Tribeca Festival as part of Art Basel Miami Beach, further solidifying e.l.f.’s continued collaboration with the prestigious festival. Following the screening of Show Your(s)e.l.f., a retrospective screening of the celebrated film The Birdcage will be presented, emphasising the shared themes of self-expression, authenticity, and individuality. Earlier this year, a trailer of Modesta’s episode was previewed at the Tribeca Festival, generating excitement and anticipation for its full release.
“Jane Rosenthal, Co-founder and CEO of Tribeca Enterprises, stated, ‘We are thrilled to collaborate with e.l.f. Beauty, as we value the impact of genuine storytelling. Viktoria’s remarkable journey aligns perfectly with this year’s festival theme, and we are privileged to be part of this extraordinary celebration of self-expression and embracing our differences.'”
Giving Back to Empower Others
As part of its commitment to uplifting individuals and supporting causes close to Modesta’s heart, e.l.f. Beauty will be donating to several nonprofit organisations that promote inclusion and support individuals with disabilities. These include AstroAccess, an initiative working to promote disability inclusion in space exploration; the Amputee Coalition, which offers support and advocacy for those affected by limb loss; and KEEN Los Angeles, a programme empowering youth with disabilities to participate in non-competitive physical activities.
Purpose-Driven Campaigns for a Better Tomorrow
In partnership with OBERLAND, its agency for purpose-driven campaigns, e.l.f. created the Show Your(s)e.l.f. film series to bring to life its mission of supporting all individuals—across all eyes, lips, faces, paws, and fins. The series is an integral part of e.l.f.’s broader commitment to celebrating diversity and fostering a sense of belonging for everyone.
