London’s historic Whiteley has been reborn as a premier residential and hospitality destination, marking the completion of its eight-year transformation. The grand opening welcomed over 600 guests, including councillors, residents, stakeholders, and community members, to celebrate this milestone. Hosted by MARK and C C Land, the event showcased The Whiteley’s architectural splendour, symbolising a new chapter for Queensway.
A Celebration of Transformation
Held within The Whiteley’s majestic atrium, the event highlighted the scale of this landmark redevelopment. Under a striking pavilion, guests gathered to recognise the regeneration of this 1,000,000 sq. ft. project. The courtyard, beneath the building’s iconic dome, featured a circular bar serving craft cocktails, while world-class entertainment captivated the audience. A performance by singer-songwriter Rag’n’Bone Man, followed by a vibrant DJ set from Sally K, set the tone for an unforgettable evening. Aerialists added to the spectacle, gliding through the soaring atrium, while a special film showcased the journey behind The Whiteley’s restoration.
Restoring an Iconic Landmark
Originally built in 1911 by William Whiteley as a department store, The Whiteley was once a thriving global emporium. Now, its revival forms the centrepiece of Queensway’s ambitious £3 billion regeneration. Led by the Queensway Steering Group, a consortium of local landowners, the transformation aims to reshape the area into one of London’s most sought-after neighbourhoods. Key enhancements include wider pavements, increased greenery, upgraded tube stations, and the creation of new pavilions for outdoor dining. Additionally, a new entrance to Hyde Park is set to be completed this year, further cementing Queensway’s reputation as a vibrant urban hub.
A New Destination for Luxury Living
As the driving force behind Queensway’s revival, The Whiteley is redefining the area’s commercial and residential landscape. Among its distinguished tenants is the UK’s first Six Senses hotel, alongside an Everyman Cinema, a Third Space gym, and a new Pachamama Group restaurant. The first retail spaces are set to open in summer 2025, further elevating the destination’s appeal.
The residential offering at The Whiteley blends historic charm with contemporary design. The masterplan, created by Foster + Partners, integrates heritage elements with modern architecture to deliver 139 bespoke residences. Set behind a restored façade, these homes range from studios to five-bedroom apartments, townhouses, and penthouses. With 70% of residences already sold, The Whiteley has become a prime location for both domestic and international buyers. Property values have surged, with an average price of £3,600 per sq. ft. a 200% premium over the surrounding Bayswater area, according to Savills.
Unparalleled Amenities and Services
Residents at The Whiteley benefit from 60,000 sq. ft. of world-class amenities. These include a 20-metre swimming pool, a state-of-the-art gym, a padel court, children’s playrooms, a library, and an exceptional spa. Additionally, bespoke services such as grocery stocking, sommelier assistance, and pet care set a new standard for luxury living.
With a gross development value exceeding £1.5 billion, The Whiteley is not only revitalising Queensway but also redefining London’s residential market. Backed by influential supporters, including Westminster City Council and SEBRA, the grand opening marked the beginning of an exciting new era for this historic landmark.
